Support First Light Farm & Learning Center and help preserve the future for your grandchildren.
There are multiple ways to support First Light Farm & Learning Center:
1. Become a Steward of the Farm.
First Light Farm** invites you to consider a monthly or annual donation of your choice, based on your own sense of your carbon footprint, by investing in First Light Farm’s mission of developing healthy soil to not only provide healthy and nutrient-dense food but to also sequester carbon to help fight our climate emergency. Your donations help the farm buy the necessary additional soil amendments such as compost and biochar, mulch, and cover crops to ensure and continue to build healthy soil.
2. Join as a Sustaining Member of First Light Farm & Learning Center at the $600.00 level.
Your gift will be used to support the cost of soil enhancements and purchase cover crops.
3. Join as a Life-Time Member of First Light Farm & Learning Center at the $1,200.00 level.
Your gift will help our farm pay our farmers a higher living wage and reduce the social and financial inequity farmers have historically incurred.
4. Join our Carbon Offset Program: A SOILution for 2021 and Beyond
The science is clear. We are not reducing C02 emissions fast enough which in turn lead to an unstable planet with increasing drought, wild fires, warmer oceans, and more. For many, this knowledge can be overwhelming. However, repeated in many scientific publications, there emerges hope: agriculture, and specifically regenerative agriculture*. We now know that healthy soil, aerated and filled with nutrients and microorganisms will draw down, that is sequester, C02 and hold it long term in the soil.
Carbon offsets programs have been developed so that individuals’ or businesses’ can “offset” their greenhouse gas emissions by supporting programs that decrease emissions, through projects such as planting trees, developing renewable energy, capturing methane, and building healthy soils. Unfortunately, these projects are often in distant locations/countries.
Here in Seattle, you can do community-based carbon offsets by supporting a local farm, such as First Light Farm, that practices regenerative agriculture. In 2020, First Light Farm established a Carbon Offset Program for the dual purpose of helping individuals and businesses move towards becoming carbon neutral and helping meet the many expenses of running a farm that puts the health of its soils first.
Consider that, according to the non-profit Cool Energy, a $6.00 donation can offset emissions for one round-trip cross-country flight; or according to Terrapass.Com, a $180.00 donation could offset the average American’s annual emissions of C02. (Terrapass has an easy way for your to estimate your carbon footprint: https://www.terrapass.com/carbon-footprint-calculator)
Mail your check to First Light Farm, 720 North 84th Street, Seattle, WA 98103 (office address).

*Regenerative agriculture focuses on topsoil regeneration, increasing biodiversity, improving the water cycle, enhancing ecosystem services, increasing bio-sequestration, increasing resilience to climate change, and strengthening the health and vitality of farm soil (Wikipedia).
